Pneumatic Clinching Tool

Pneumatic clinching tool designed for fastening flange rails to ventilation duct sections. The built-in pneumomechanical intensifier delivers a working force of 38 kN with a cycle time from 0.5 s.

Description

Tool advantages

  • high productivity — from 0.5 s per joint;
  • long service life thanks to a simple design and the use of tool steels;
  • the hinged C-frame makes it easy to position the tool at the required point of the flange rail; the frame is pneumatically driven and controlled by a push button;
  • a built-in adjustment screw allows quick setting of the working stroke, so one and the same tool can join different combinations of materials;
  • punch and die made of high-strength alloy steel;
  • quick and easy punch and die replacement;
  • quiet operation with no sparks or fumes;
  • compressed air is consumed only at the moment the joint is formed — unlike electric tools;
  • suitable for erecting lightweight structures and prefabricated buildings from steel profiles.

The pneumatic clinching tool creates a durable clinch joint formed by compressing and plastically deforming the material, without any additional fasteners (rivets). The built-in pneumomechanical intensifier develops a working force of 38 kN at 6 bar, so the joining point is formed instantly. The tool performs equally well in small and large workshops, directly on site, and in fire-hazard areas. A high-pressure quick coupler allows immediate connection to the compressed-air line. A wide adjustment range makes it possible to set the working stroke quickly and join different material combinations with a single tool. The hinged C-frame, opened pneumatically at the touch of a button, simplifies positioning of the tool on flange rails up to 40 mm high.

The payback period is very short thanks to minimal operating and maintenance costs and the absence of additional fasteners.

What is a clinch joint?

A clinch joint is a durable, permanent connection of metal sheets or profiles formed under pressure by cold stamping. A form-closed interlock is created in a single working stroke of the punch — no rivets, screws or welding required. The joint can be two-layer or multilayer, and parts made of stainless and mild steel, aluminium and other non-ferrous metals can be joined together. Another key advantage is that painted and coated surfaces of the joined parts remain undamaged.

Advantages of clinch joints

  • high joint strength;
  • the joining point is formed instantly;
  • no limit on the number of material layers being joined;
  • parts made of different steels and alloys can be joined;
  • no additional fasteners required;
  • no heat input — corrosion resistance remains intact;
  • the rectangular joint point is ideal for high-hardness and stainless steels;
  • excellent quality of the finished products.

When ordering, any punch and die combination can be selected — according to the total thickness of the sheets to be joined and the shape of the joining point, rectangular or round. Replacing the punch or die is quick and simple and requires no special tools or particular operator skills.

To ensure high speed and reliable operation of the pneumatic components, the tool should be supplied through an air preparation unit with a flow capacity of at least 1000 Nl/min (including the pneumatic tubing). The air preparation unit is supplied with the tool and comprises a filter with pressure regulator, an oiler, a pressure gauge, a spiral hose with quick coupler and a fitting for connection to the compressed-air line.

A spring balancer, swivel ring, stand and other auxiliary modules are available as optional accessories.

Applications

Thanks to its reliability, ergonomics and the instant formation of the clinch joint, this hand-held pneumatic tool has proven itself in small and large plants manufacturing ventilation systems and other equipment. It is used for erecting lightweight structures and prefabricated buildings from steel profiles, and is ideally suited to the production of rectangular ventilation ducts, silencers, duct fans, pocket filters and other components.

Die selection

When ordering, the die can be selected according to the total thickness of the sheets to be joined:

Die No. 1total sheet thickness 0.8–1.5 mm
Die No. 2total sheet thickness 1.6–2.0 mm
Die No. 3total sheet thickness 2.1–2.5 mm
Die No. 4total sheet thickness 2.6–3.0 mm
Die No. 5total sheet thickness 3.1–3.5 mm
Die No. 6total sheet thickness 3.6–4.0 mm
