Stationary Pneumatic Press

Stationary clinching press for sheet metal up to 5 mm total thickness and hole punching in metal up to 6 mm thick. The built-in pneumohydraulic intensifier delivers a working force of 60 kN.

Description

Advantages of the stationary press

  • high productivity — from 0.8 s per joint;
  • large C-frame throat depth of 400 mm;
  • the 104 mm free ram stroke of the working head simplifies positioning of the workpiece on the press;
  • a built-in adjustment nut makes it possible to join different combinations of materials and give the clinch joint the required shape;
  • no smoke, sparks or noise — a clean, environmentally friendly production process;
  • separate control of the free and working strokes allows many joining points to be made without fully opening the working head, while safe triggering of the working stroke is preserved;
  • the control-pedal layout lets the operator shift the foot quickly without lifting the heel, maintaining a firm stance while keeping both hands free;
  • the high-pressure working-stroke pedal triggers only when the gap between the punch and die is 8 mm — all of which ensures a high level of safety;
  • a proven design ensures high reliability and minimal maintenance costs.

The stationary clinching press is designed to create permanent joints in sheet metal with a total thickness of up to 5 mm and to punch holes in metal up to 6 mm thick. Thanks to the built-in pneumohydraulic intensifier, the working force reaches 60 kN. To start working, simply connect the press to the compressed-air line and set the working pressure to 6 bar on the filter-regulator. A built-in adjustment nut allows quick setting of the working stroke, making it possible to join different combinations of materials and give the joint the required shape. The frame design, with its long-reach working head, allows joints to be made at up to 400 mm from the workpiece edge, while the flange height on the product can be 100 mm or more. The press is controlled by the operator via pedals located in its base.

The payback period is short thanks to low maintenance and operating costs.

How a clinch joint is formed

What is clinching (cold stamping, sometimes called cold welding of metal)? It is a technology for joining two or more sheet materials without fasteners, using cold forming. The joint is formed by a pressing stroke between a fixed die and a moving punch. The materials to be joined are first pressed into the die by the punch; as soon as the lower material touches the die anvil, it begins to deform and spread outwards, while the movable die segments slide apart. The pressing action forms an interlocking button. The punch then returns to its starting position, the joined part can be removed, and the die's side segments close again under spring force. This localised deformation of the material creates a joint with both force and form closure. With the appropriate choice of punch and die, either a round or a rectangular joint can be produced, depending on the task at hand. The technology requires neither electrical power nor the special cooling systems used in spot welding. Another advantage of the clinch joint is the ability to join coated materials without damaging the surface.

Advantages of clinch joints

  • compared with spot welding — a cleaner production environment and lower energy costs;
  • high joint strength;
  • high joining speed;
  • two-layer and multilayer joints can be created;
  • different sheet materials can be joined;
  • no additional fasteners required;
  • no surface damage from heat — corrosion resistance is preserved;
  • the rectangular joint shape is ideal for hard materials such as stainless steel;
  • excellent quality and a clean, attractive appearance of the finished products.
